Nestor Ceniceros
Interminent
Barcelona
30.6 – 20.8.2022
Nestor Ceniceros investigates the port of the city of Barcelona and its surroundings as a strategic zone at a geopolitical level, tourist emblem, and social attraction whose symbolic charge generates a great impact on the city of Barcelona.
Nestor Ceniceros’ practice stands out for his interest in knowing the limits beyond the public sphere, in investigating what they are like and what use to be behind the borders of the places where he works in order to understand them. For this occasion, through a series of visits to various spaces such as port captaincies, boatyards, scrapyards, and boat recycling plants, Nestor rescues different elements ready to be destroyed or abandoned in oblivion. Based on this type of methodology and contacts, the artist enters the different locations and obtains the pieces to develop his work.
The modifications of each one of the objects and their arrangement within the exhibition are the scene of resignification, the recovery of memory, and the unknown. Ropes, knots, buoys, oars, cargo boxes, and ship ladders make up the traces of a past related to the maritime market, territorial division, and border control for access and security of the port area. It is here where the name of the exhibition emphasizes, the fact of proposing a new look toward the line that marks the line between the border and shared place.
